Map of London 1746
This is the famous Rocque's Map of London, first published in 1746. The plan covers the cities of London, Westminster, and borough of Southwark. It was surveyed by John Rocque and engraved by John Pine on twenty-four separate sheets. It took nearly ten years to survey, engrave and publish the map. The Rocque's map of London has been described as 'a magnificent example of cartography, and one of the greatest and most handsome plans of any city'.
The map was financed through a system that resemble today's 'crowdfunding', people subscribing to obtain a copy, paying one guinea as a deposit and two guineas when the map was received.
This vintage map comes in 4 sizes on archival enhanced matte photo paper. They are made to fit into the standard sizes listed (see sample photo for sizes above) each with a proportional white border for matting.
